BFI London Film Festival 2015

Sunday 18th Oct – ‘King Jack’

‘King Jack’ is a sweet coming-of-age story in which our protagonist is a fifteen year old boy, stuck in a run-down small town, who is forced to look after his younger cousin for the weekend. The story is slight, with the drama chiefly based around an escalating feud with an older, local bully but it is the characters, which hold our attention.

Chiefly, Charlie Plummer is brilliant, as Jack, in a performance, which, for me, echoed the late River Phoenix’s in ‘Stand by Me’ – Plummer showing that same tough exterior, which clearly hides a tender heart. Trust me, we’ll be seeing much more of this young actor in the future.

Well, that’s all folks! There you have it, my personal run-down of the 59th BFI London Film Festival. I hope you enjoyed reading it.
